From earth to earth. From life to death. An interesting concept that we’ve developed a plan for.

Early in 2009 we created our first indoor casket garden. The idea was to use the indoor garden appliance for growing fresh nourishing and vital greens all year round in the comfort of your own home! Growing greens such as sprouts, herbs, and vegetables. From basil to wheatgrass to cucumbers our gardens began producing great food! We were so happy with our product we started a brand new company – Homesown, Sprouting our future! www.homesown.us. The Garden then doubles as a Casket at the time of need.

We show you how to construct this casket as well as transform it into a Garden in which your produce will thrive. This plan includes all traditional building instructions as with all of our other plans as well as instruction on proper lighting choice and installation, air circulation sources and ventilation, and innovative self watering solutions.

The way our world is moving it is nice to know what goes into your food as well as what you finally put into the ground.

DESCRIPTION

To complete this casket a full woodworking shop and sewing facility is required.

Step by step instruction on how to build this casket your self!

Save yourself thousands of dollars and be proud to have been a part of this very personal funeral process.

Along with the step-by-step assembly instructions are many illustrations and full size templates of almost every wood component.

This casket plan is intended for a skilled woodworker. Upon completion you will be proud to have completed a standard sized casket.

We built our first casket for my grandmother. The closure that we felt by being able to take part in the funeral process as well as the money that we saved by building the casket ourselves made our experience pleasant. We want to be able to offer this peaceful feeling to others.

Handbuild with care and love. Designed for all faiths that require no metal in the casket construction. Rope handles and natural pine creates this simple design. Designed for an intermediate woodworker.

This plan includes 9 pages with all full size to scale components, step by step instruction, and illustrations. Materials lists, Hardware / Supply list, Tool List.

78″ x 22.5″ x 14″ inside

Don H. from Idaho writes:

I just finished building my Sandler coffin. I used poplar and at your suggestion finished it with canola oil. Some say canola may go rancid, but so will I once I’m in it. I crawled in during the construction process and learned what I already suspected that coffins are easier to get into than out of.

My coffin 72 inches. I am 65 inches. I modified the ends letting the bottom come all the way through which covers the groove of the routed dovetail. To hold the ends in place I used 3/16 inch dowels like those used to secure the lid instead pinching the last slat into an 1/8th inch deep dado.

I made some errors I had to correct, but I managed to use very little glue and no nails at all. I turned some apple handles to thread the ropes through, they are six inches long. The inlaid owl on the top is our family symbol. I this is made from Russian olive from branches pruned from some of our landscaping trees.

Overall I enjoyed the project and may do another once I unwind from the focus I’ve had on this one the past two weeks.

Thank you for a nice design.

DESCRIPTION

Each and every casket we build, in our woodworking shop, is handmade using centuries old woodworking techniques.

This casket plan requires intermediate woodworking skills to construct.

This is a traditional casket design, with half couch, accented with corner, base, and crown moldings. We build this casket using solid pine wood and white cotton bedding. We use canola oil to finish our caskets.

Please share with us your photos, we love to see our designs inspire your creativity. Choices of wood, fabric, and wood finish are all up to you.
